WTF?!

Oh my freaking god.....

I think she might have chicken pox now.

She had a vaccination for it in November so if it is the pox it should be a mild case, but just the same she's developing a rash. I noticed one spot on her knee this morning & now there's quite a few more - thighs, butt (where you don't really want an itch), lower belly & a couple on her her arms & back. Nothing on her face but we're back to the runny nose thing & she's also cutting three premolars right now so drool a plenty & crappy sleeps.

I really don't want to keep complaining but what is this, some sort of bizarre karmic retribution deal? Was she some evil despot in a previous life or something? I mean she can be a wee bit tyranical but hey, she's only 14 months old!

Please, please, please, don't start scratching my little Doodlebug.

~ On a good note, we figured out how to transfer videos from the camera to the laptop. It was easy enough for a monkey. Big surprise. ~

On the up side, if she has chicken pox she won't have to have it later, say, on her birthday when she's 12.

True dat. Sucky way to spend your 12th birthday. My four sisters & I had it at Christmas time when I was about 8 I think. Good times with those weird little white round scars to prove it. Ugh.

So far it's really, really mild but the diaper area is driving her kind of nuts.

It could also be roseola, not that I'm a doctor, but I just went through this last week, and although my dr says it was just an allergy two other girls in Samantha's playgroup were also diagnosed with it the same week as her so I think that's what she had.

Hey Laura,

Are they blisters? I had pox when I was 15 - yuk... anyways they started out as blisters - or the rash will get blistery like. The rash could be related to the teething. Molars are a hard go. Timbit got all 4 of his at once.

hey laura,

Sounds like you're going to be keeping the doctors in Seattle in business this year. I'm pretty sure that unless it's some weird strain that she wasn't vaccinated for, she wouldn't have chicken pox if she had the vaccine. But I dunno, I'm no doctor. :) Good luck with this latest round of illness. I hope it's surprisingly short.

Hi all. From what I've googled, seen with Calvin (had them about 6 years ago) & remembered from myself (& Timbit's bout) it looks exactly like pox. Only that there are not very many of the spots & not super watery / blistery. Some have ruptured though so as far as I know, it can't be hives. The nurse seemed to think it was chickenpox from my description on the phone.
Even with the vaccine, there's a 10-20% chance of still getting it according to what I've read. Something about a "wild strain". I'm just glad it hasn't been to bad so far. As for the doctor's bills - I don't even want to know. Thankfully the Big Company has a great health plan.
